Equestrian Quest

Equestrian Quest offers spiritual retreats with horses, day rides and sunset/moonlight rides on gentle horses in Georgia O'Keeffe country.

Two week-long workshops are planned for July 2005, and specially customized workshops for couples and individuals can be scheduled throughout the summer and fall at times that are available. One workshop will focus on the importance of relating to nature and horses in Jung’s psychology and the other will combine shamanic approaches to transformation with how horses enable us to make these changes. Food will be provided and will be vegetarian, except for fish.  Since the altitude of 6,500 feet represents an abrupt change for some people, it is advisable for participants to come at least one day early for acclimation.

Dates for one week workshops are June 13-18, and one in August to be announced. Dates for a single participant or couple can be scheduled by contacting Equestrian Quest.

Cost for the one week workshop is $1,800, and for customized workshops that are arranged for individuals and couples, both the time period and cost are negotiable. The cost includes horses and tack, highly trained leaders, wranglers, food and accommodations. The accommodations include tipis for those who want to be close to nature, and more home-like accommodations for those who want modern conveniences.

Day rides take you into the Abiquiu and Medanales mesas, canyons and along the Chama River - an hour's drive from Santa Fe. Transportation can be provided upon request.

Our Horses are gentle, but filled with life and spirit, and easy for bonding with riders. They include Western quarter horses and a Peruvian Paso. They have been trained with respect (which is popularly referred to as the "horse whisperer" approach). A brief period of orientation to this tradition by the wrangler will precede each ride. The rider enters a partnership with the horse, instead of exerting domination or mastery.

For Your Safety all rides are accompanied by at least one experienced wrangler. Your skill level is determined in advance by a questionnaire, which we will send to you once you have made arrangements for the ride. The pace and instructions by the wrangler will reflect the skill level of the riders.
