EQUESTRIAN QUESTS
Equestrian Quest draws on the magic of horses in individual therapy, relationship and family counseling, therapeutic workshops, and training programs. In each of these formats the staff will apply the psychology of C. G. Jung, letting us see our own projections of fear, awe, self-doubt, and inflation, among others. Horses open the heart for healing wounds that galvanize these projections. For many of us this kind of healing occurs more quickly and seamlessly in raw nature with horses, than it does in an office setting.
For thousands of years these animals were used for healing rituals conducted by shamans and were revered both for their special powers and their sensitivity to humans. In Jung’s psychology horses that appear in dreams represent the life force of the dreamer.
Participants are exposed to a variety of breeds, including the Palomino, Peruvian Paso, Appaloosa, Thoroughbred, and Norwegian Fjord. Each horse elicits a different response from the participant. That response often brings up unconscious material underlying one’s connection to that particular horse.
In couple’s work each partner's choice of which horse to work with, along with differences in the work itself, dramatizes differences and projections within the relationship. Changes in how they relate to the horses engender changes within their marriage or relationship.
